Employment Opportunities at the Maryland Chamber of Commerce

Position: Business Development Lead (full-time)

Seeking a highly motivated team player to design and lead the Maryland Chamber's growth strategies in new and existing markets. This is an outstanding opportunity for a visionary and passionate sales leader with significant experience and proven successes in the business development sector.

Responsibilities

Develops and directs all sales activities with the support of the Chamber, inclusive of, but not limited to, the following:

  • growing sales, sponsorship partnerships and profitability of the Maryland Chamber by engaging new businesses and increasing revenues in existing members
  • strategic planning and company leadership as member of the executive team
  • developing metrically driven sales priorities and tracking systems for the organization
  • working with executive team members, developing and articulating a sales and marketing vision, and rallying the team behind that vision
  • providing detailed and accurate sales forecasting
  • maintaining and enhancing the Maryland Chamber's culture and core values of superior customer service
  • developing tools to demonstrate quantifiable value propositions to clients based on individual needs and situations
  • developing and managing a channel partner system of outside members to generate new opportunties and group purchase possibilities
  • being accountable for individual strategic sales and profitable sales growth, and meeting targeted monthly and annual goals
  • demonstrated creative problem-solving and analytical skills
  • regular statewide travel for in-person meetings with teams, customers and partners

Experience required:

Minimum qualifications

  • minimum eight years of successful track record of sales leadership experience
  • four-year college degree - MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • ability to work well in a flexible, "roll-up-your-sleeves" and dynamic work environment
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • successful track record of building and growing sales and profitability in a service, project delivery or similar solutions-focused business
  • proven track record of creating regional growth strategies in existing and new geographic markets
  • proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and CRM systems

Internships at the Maryland Chamber of Commerce

Position: Communications 

Area of Focus: Event Planning and Promotion

Compensation: Paid 

Position Dates: Flexible

Hours: 2-3 days a week, 17-22 hours per week. Flexible.

Prerequisites: Student currently enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate level program in marketing, communications, business, hospitality management or other related field.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research, make site visits (with Chamber staff), and find resources to help staff make decisions about event possibilities
  • Assist in identifying event opportunities and generating interest
  • Works closely with other staff members in promoting Chamber events to target audiences
  • Assists in preparing a variety of publications, materials, and programs for events
  • Assists in maintaining the Chamber website ensuring that event and program updates are made on a timely basis
  • Attends signature events
  • Assists on the “day of” in set-up, preparation, hosting registration table and troubleshooting
  • May be asked to assist with social media, pre-and post-event coverage
  • Assist with event registration 
  • Aid in database management

Skills Required

  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, proof reading skills, and speaking
  • Excellent organization skills and experience with project management
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and work assignments from a variety of staff and volunteers 
  • Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision
  • Fantastic customer service ethic and high expectations for quality

Position: Government Affairs 

Area of Focus: Legislative

Compensation: Paid 

Position Dates: Flexible

Hours: 2-3 days a week, 17-22 hours per week. Flexible.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Providing administrative support to the lobbying team in order to provide timely and accurate reports, position papers, testimony, fax/emailing of legislative-related documents and correspondence to legislators, members and other constituency groups
  • Supporting the Legislative, and other policy committees of the Maryland Chamber with regard to preparing, updating, and maintaining committee lists, agendas, meeting notices, RSVPs, materials and correspondence
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Aid in database management

Skills Required

  • Outstanding computer skills, including database management
  • Good writing skills as well as a strong ability to work within strict timelines, under pressure and with a wide variety of personalities
  • A professional demeanor coupled with a good work ethic
  • A general understanding of the legislative process is preferred
