1) Maryland Healthy Working Families Act

Additional Navigation

The Chamber is partnering with a coalition of businesses to represent concerns of the business community affected by a statewide sick leave mandate. The coalition has identified the following priorities to be considered:

  • preemption
  • effective date for seasonal workers (currently 90, but must be 120 or more)
  • definition of eligible employee (currently eight hours per week – seeking increase)
  • higher standard number of employees to trigger paid leave mandate (seeking the 50 employees per location standard as enacted in Federal Family Leave Act [1993])
  • sanctions
  • general leave policy
  • number of accrued paid leave days (seeking a reduction from seven to five)
  • no private right of action for alleged employer violations
  • collective bargaining agreements (must be honored)
