Bill Number: SB 832

Bill Title: Maryland Community Enhancement Transit-Oriented Development Fund

Bill Sponsor(s): Senator Jones

Subject: Transportation

Committee: FIN

Bill Summary: This bill would have created the MD Community Enhancement Transit-Oriented Development Fund as a fund to address community based initiatives to reduce negative impacts on communities adjacent to transit oriented development sites. It would have authorized the use of money from the state budget, the Transportation Trust Fund, and other sources to fund the program.

History: This bill received an UNF report by the Senate Finance Committee.

Chamber Position: Oppose

Position Summary: The Maryland Chamber is ardently opposed to any transfers from the Transportation Trust Fund. This bill sought to transfer funds dedicated to transportation needs to create and fund this program. A healthy Transportation Trust Fund is essential to the productivity of Maryland's Transportation System. This bill did not take the needs of the system into account. For these reasons, the Maryland Chamber opposed this bill.
