One year in, HopkinsLocal program yields results
On Thursday, March 9, Chamber member Johns Hopkins University along with Johns Hopkins Health System released results from the first year of their HopkinsLocal initiative:
-Over $55 million in construction spending with disadvantaged, women-owned or minority businesses
-About a $5 million increase in spending with local suppliers
-More than 300 hires from disadvantaged neighborhoods
Launched in the wake of Baltimore's 2015 riots, the HopkinsLocal initiative builds upon efforts that were already in place within the Johns Hopkins system. The program is designed to have Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Health System make more of an impact in the city, as they are among the largest employers in the city.
