Maryland Chamber of Commerce Statement of Support for New FBI Headquarters in Maryland
Mar 8, 2023
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — On behalf of the Maryland business community and our coalition of more than 6,800 members, the Maryland Chamber of Commerce is urging support of Maryland’s proposal to serve as the site of the new FBI Headquarters in Prince George’s County.
“Maryland is a hub for cybersecurity, serving as the home of the National Security Agency and Cyber Command at Fort George G. Meade, and as a perfect location for the FBI’s Cybersecurity Center,” said Mary Kane, President & CEO of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce. “Our highly accessible transit and highway system, strong business community, well-equipped higher educational institutions and skilled workforce provide the accessibility, infrastructure, workforce and talent pool needed to support the FBI’s mission and cybersecurity center needs.”
Maryland offers two build-ready sites that can deliver the new FBI Headquarters two to four years earlier than the competing site in Virginia, saving taxpayers between $250 and $500 million. The two locations proposed by Maryland, both located in Prince George’s County, offer great access to public transit and highway networks.
What’s more, Maryland’s higher educational infrastructure would create a pipeline of highly skilled and diverse employees for the FBI. Maryland offers twenty higher education institutions designated as National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity, a program that commits to producing cybersecurity professionals that will reduce vulnerabilities in our national infrastructure.
In addition, three highly respected Maryland universities are prepared to launch a Maryland Academy for Innovation in National Security dedicated to training and enriching the current and future workforce.
The Maryland Chamber of Commerce urges the General Services Administration to consider the merits of Maryland’s proposal to serve as the site of the new FBI Headquarters.
