Meet the Host Companies and Educators Participating in Maryland Chamber Foundation’s 2024 Teacher Externship Program

Sep 4, 2024

As the Maryland Chamber Foundation’s 2024 Teacher Externship Program marks its sixth year of collaboration, we were excited to continue this unique workforce development program aimed at building the bridge between education and industry.

This year, we worked closely with a select group of businesses to provide high school educators with hands-on experiences and insights that will enrich their teaching and better prepare students for in-demand careers.

The 2024 Teacher Externship program, which kicked off in early July, just wrapped up with high school educators from across the state spending four weeks immersed in the workplaces of distinguished Maryland companies. Throughout the program, educators gained firsthand knowledge of various career pathways, in-demand skills and the variety of job opportunities that await their students as they prepare to enter the workforce. We thank this year’s host companies for making our program possible.

Congratulations to our 2024 Host Companies and Educators

About the Maryland Chamber Foundation’s Teacher Externship Program

The Maryland Chamber Foundation’s Teacher Externship Program is a four-week summer program that builds bridges between businesses and educators by pairing high school teachers with top Maryland businesses who provide hands-on experience in industries related to the subjects they teach. Maryland teachers then bring this knowledge back to the classroom, where they can empower their students with the essential information and skills they need to begin down a lucrative career path.

Teacher externs receive a stipend from the Maryland Chamber Foundation for their work and gain invaluable experiences and perspectives that they can share with their students — through field trips, enhanced lesson plans, and exciting classroom activities — when they return to the classroom in the fall. Teachers can also earn up to four continuing development credits through MSDE, if they create a lesson plan post-externship and report back on results.

The Maryland Chamber Foundation’s Teacher Externship Program continues to play an important role in workforce development. With 81 teachers having participated since its inception, the program has not only enriched educators' knowledge but has also directly impacted students’ career paths. As workforce development remains a critical issue for our business community, we are proud of the tangible differences this program has made and continues to make.

As we look forward to the 2025 Teacher Externship Program, we encourage educators and businesses interested in making a significant impact on workforce development to get involved. Applications for the next program will open this fall. To learn more about participating as an educator or host company, please visit mdchamber.org/Foundation.
