Led by our expert government affairs team, each policy committee helps strengthen and influence advocacy on issues that will impact your business, workforce and bottom line.

POLICY COMMITTEE

Business Regulations & Operations

Our Business Regulations & Operations policy committee focuses on legislative and regulatory issues that affect the daily operational activities of businesses across the state.

This committee meets during legislative session as needed. Meetings are held remotely via video conferencing.

Civil Liability

Our Civil Liability policy committee overs all issues related to tort reform and civil liability of businesses, including opposing efforts to expand exposure to liability and damages (including punitive and non-economic damages) and weaken defenses available to businesses.

This committee meets during legislative session as needed. Meetings are held remotely via video conferencing.

Cyber & Technology

Our Cyber & Technology policy committee covers issues related to growing and retaining biotechnology, cybersecurity, and other high-tech business innovators, including a focus on industry infrastructure needs.

This committee meets during session every Friday at 10:30 a.m. Meetings are held remotely via video conferencing.

Education & Workforce

Our Education & Workforce Development policy committee covers issues addressing both education and workforce development, with a focus on issues that help students access quality, affordable training for college and careers while building a pipeline of qualified workers.

This committee meets during legislative session as needed. Meetings are held remotely via video conferencing.

POLICY COMMITTEE

Energy & Environment

Our Energy & Environment policy committee covers all energy and environmental issues. This committee has three subcommittees: Air Quality, Water Quality and Land Use & Natural Resources.

This committee also participates in an annual meeting with the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) Secretary and senior staff, usually in late November or early December.

This committee meets remotely via video conferencing at 8:30 a.m. on the first Thursday of the month outside of legislative session, and every Thursday during session.

Health Care & Biopharma

Our Healthcare & Biopharma policy committee covers all healthcare issues, focusing on controlling costs, streamlining regulations, and supporting innovation in Maryland's robust life sciences industry.

This committee meets during legislative session as needed. Meetings are held remotely via video conferencing.

Labor & Employment

Our Labor & Employment policy committee covers all employment law and workplace regulation issues.

This committee meets every Thursday morning during legislative session at 9:30 a.m.  Meetings are held remotely via video conferencing. Outside of session, the committee generally meets once or twice in-person, in the early fall.

Taxation

Our Taxation policy committee covers all taxation issues impacting Maryland’s tax climate, focusing on efforts to make Maryland more competitive and that help attract and retain businesses, talent and capital investments.

This committee meets every Friday during legislative session at 9:00 a.m. Meetings are held remotely via video conferencing.

Transportation

Our Transportation policy committee covers all transportation issues, coordinating a broad-based coalition of businesses, trade groups, and associations to advance short- and long-term solutions to state-wide transportation and transit needs.

This committee meets during legislative session as needed. Meetings are held remotely via video conferencing.

Workers' Comp & UI

Our Workers' Compensation & Unemployment Insurance policy committee covers all workers’ compensation and unemployment insurance issues, focusing on issues like benefit increases and contractor classifications.

This committee meets during legislative session as needed. Meetings are held remotely via video conferencing.

POLICY COMMITTEE

Legislative Committee 

The legislative committee develops the Maryland Chamber’s position on legislation affecting the business community.

This committee is an invitation-only committee that shall not exceed 48 members at any given time.

The committee meets every Monday at 3:00 p.m. during legislative session, and at least twice in the fall. All meetings are in-person.
