Chamber Update | September 13, 2022

September 13, 2022

Between Two Chambers hosted by Andrew Griffin

The week of August 15th was the annual MACo convention in Ocean City. Myself and my colleagues from the Maryland Chamber joined the thousands of local, state and federal government officials and legislators for a week of meetings, educational sessions and of course, crabs and cocktails.

We were part of “Podcasters Row” on Friday at MACo, and were able to grab various legislators as they were walking through the convention center. Throughout the morning I spoke with Delegates Mike Griffith and Carl Anderton, Senator Johnny Ray Salling and Delegate Lily Qi about priorities for the upcoming legislative session and the buzz from their districts.

Great conversations were had as we discussed the big changes headed to Maryland in 2023.

Maryland’s Small Business Credit Initiative Program Now Open

In August, Governor Larry Hogan announced Maryland programs funded by the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) are open. Up to $198 million in federal small business relief is being administered by three state agencies: the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), the Maryland Department of Commerce, and the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO). These agencies will use funds to expand and enhance nine existing state business lending and investment programs.

The nine programs funded by SSBCI will support businesses with limited opportunities for growth whether due to the pandemic or historic disinvestment. Maryland’s statewide SSBCI initiatives will target communities and areas with a high concentration of small, micro, and Socially and Economically Disadvantaged Individual (SEDI) businesses to support ongoing state investments in underserved communities.
