Chesapeake Employers to Give $100,000 to Maryland Nonprofits

Strengthening Maryland’s Workforce is Focus of the Company’s Centennial Celebration

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding in 1914, Chesapeake Employers’ Insurance Company, the workers’ compensation insurer formerly known as IWIF, is inviting non-profit human service organizations across Maryland to apply for its “Bridge to the Future” grant program. Grants will be awarded to qualifying non-profits to help support their efforts to develop the employability of the clients they serve.

“Since its beginning, our company has provided workers’ compensation insurance to Maryland employers to protect their employees and insure them against workplace injuries and accidents,” said Thomas Phelan, President and CEO of Chesapeake Employers. “As we plan our centennial celebration, it seems fitting that we focus on two critical areas:  the importance of employment, and giving back to the communities that helped sustain us for the past 100 years.”

Bridge to the Future” grants are intended to help Maryland’s non-profits better prepare their clients to secure employment, which in turn will strengthen the economic vitality of Maryland’s communities. 

The grants will be awarded to support a range of efforts such as fundraising, strategic planning, staff development, volunteer recruitment and management, outcome tracking, and analysis of program effectiveness. Registered 501(c)(3) human service organizations headquartered or operating in Maryland are eligible to apply, and selection will take into consideration a geographic distribution throughout the state. Grants, which must be matched one-to-one, will range in size from $5,000 to $10,000 and total $100,000. Applications must be postmarked by July 31, 2014.
