Choptank Transport announced this week that it plans to hire as many as 50 new sales associates by the end of 2014. The aggressive hiring initiative is part of President/CEO Geoff Turner’s overall growth strategy.
In terms of local and regional employment, this marks a promising development for Caroline County as well as the state of Maryland. The Preston, Maryland headquarters has traditionally attracted employees from as far away as Annapolis and Ocean City.
In 2010, Choptank added on an addition 9,000 square feet of office space to include 110 more employee seats, a new lunch room, an exercise room and a larger conference area and training center. Since the expansion, Choptank has brought on board a corporate trainer and a corporate recruiter to facilitate the growth process. The 50 new personnel slated to come aboard in 2014 will fill sales roles in a number of different positions.
“Logistics is an industry that is unfamiliar to many people and so we have made investments in education and technology that optimize our training process for new employees.” says Pam Hutchinson, Director of Human Resources at Choptank Transport. “Our most successful recruits have been those who are competitive in nature and have a very good grasp of all aspects of business either through their education or their work history.”
Choptank Transport is a two time winner of the Maryland Chamber’s Business Breakthrough Award. Learn more about this week’s announcement here.
