Special Events Manager

Compensation: Paid

Seeking an energetic and experienced fundraising and meeting planning professional who wants to grow within, and leave their fingerprint on, the evolution of our entrepreneurial organization. Reporting to the Director of Events, the ideal candidate will have experience in all aspects of event planning and production as well as exceptional skills in relationship-building, creating and implementing fundraising strategies, and recruiting and coaching volunteers to achieve success.

The Special Event Manager will assist the Director of Events by developing program concepts and budgets, and create and manage all events activities from logistics to registration to execution and fulfillment. This is a highly visible role, which demands extensive sponsorship development expertise, a strong sense of initiative, a high level of professionalism and the ability to remain hyper-organized. The ideal candidate must thrive in a challenging and fast-paced atmosphere where prioritizing and multi-tasking are the norm. They must work well both independently and in a group, maintain a calm and professional demeanor at all times, be adept at problem-solving, and manage their own workload with concurrent tasks while keeping their direct supervisor aware of project statuses.

Internships at the Maryland Chamber of Commerce

Communications & Marketing Intern

Compensation: Paid
Position Dates: Flexible
Hours: 2-3 days a week, 15-22 Hrs. Flexible
Prerequisites: Student currently enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate level program in marketing, communications, business, or other related field

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist with daily operations within the office
Aid in creating and executing social media based marketing plans for growing member awareness of benefit programs
Creating social media posts with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more
Assist with the writing and design of website
Providing support at Chamber events
Aid in database management

Skills Required:

Be creative and confident, willing to pitch ideas for new marketing tools and strategies
Have excellent writing, editing and communication skills
Basic experience in Adobe design suite
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision
Fantastic customer service ethic and high expectations for quality

Event Planning and Promotion

Area of Focus: Event Planning and Promotion
Compensation: Paid
Position Dates: Flexible
Hours: 2-3 days a week, 17-22 hours per week. Flexible.
Prerequisites: Student currently enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate level program in marketing, communications, business, hospitality management or other related field.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Conduct research, make site visits (with Chamber staff), and find resources to help staff make decisions about event possibilities
Assist in identifying event opportunities and generating interest
Works closely with other staff members in promoting Chamber events to target audience
Assists in preparing a variety of publications, materials, and programs for events
Assists in maintaining the Chamber website ensuring that event and program updates are made on a timely basis
Attends signature events
Assists on the “day of” in set-up, preparation, hosting registration table and troubleshooting
May be asked to assist with social media, pre-and post-event coverage
Assist with event registration
Aid in database management

Skills Required:

Excellent communication skills, including writing, proof reading skills, and speaking
Excellent organization skills and experience with project management
Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and work assignments from a variety of staff and volunteers
Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision
Fantastic customer service ethic and high expectations for quality

Government Affairs Intern

Area of Focus: Government Affairs
Compensation: Paid
Position Dates: Immediately/ASAP
Hours: 2-3 days a week, 17-22 hours per week. Flexible
Prerequisites: Student currently enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate level program in marketing, communications, business, hospitality management or other related field.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Providing administrative support to the lobbying team in order to provide timely and accurate reports, position papers, testimony, fax/emailing of legislative-related documents and correspondence to legislators, members and other constituency groups
Supporting the Legislative, and other policy committees of the Maryland Chamber with regard to preparing, updating, and maintaining committee lists, agendas, meeting notices, RSVPs, materials and correspondence
Other duties as assigned
Aid in database management

Skills Required:

Outstanding computer skills, including database management
Good writing skills as well as a strong ability to work within strict timelines
A professional demeanor coupled with a good work ethic
A general understanding of the legislative process is preferred
