Webinar | Maryland manufacturers: Policy priorities & recovery

The Maryland Chamber Foundation remains dedicated to supporting our state’s business community—and maintaining continuity of operations—as we grapple with the effects of the COVID-19 crisis. As the exclusive State Association Partner, we are pleased to partner with the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) on this webinar.

Representatives from NAM will discuss NAM’s advocacy efforts as well as focus on the critical issues experienced by this industry sector during the COVID-19 crisis. Governmental responses to the Covid-19 crisis have created an unprecedented climate of legal uncertainty across the business landscape. Many essential businesses remained open throughout state stay-at-home orders, while others will soon reopen without a clear playbook for keeping employees, customers, and others as safe as possible from the threat of the coronavirus.

In this climate of legal confusion, questions of liability lurk beneath every decision. This unprecedented legal environment creates a clear need for targeted liability protections that cover COVID-19-related claims. These protections are necessary both to protect businesses from a deluge of costly lawsuits, and also to put in place strong incentives for companies to closely follow and implement federal and state guidance while allowing agencies the freedom to quickly update guidance as science and conditions warrant.

Presented by:

  • Patrick Hedren, vice president and deputy general counsel, NAM
  • Michael O’Brien, assistant vice president of issue advocacy, NAM
