Teacher Externships offer teachers an unparalleled opportunity to gain firsthand experience working in industries related to the subjects they teach in order to enhance their curriculum and educate their students on both the hard and soft skills required to enter the workforce.
Presented by the Maryland Chamber Foundation
Our Teacher Externship Program is a unique four-week program in July that bridges the gap between businesses and educators by pairing public high school STEAM and CTE teachers, as well as high school counselors, with top Maryland businesses who provide hands-on experience in industries related to the subjects they teach. The Maryland Chamber Foundation is also partnering with the state’s economic development community to match teachers with local businesses in industries such as manufacturing, construction, cybersecurity, engineering, architecture, finance and many more. Just this past summer, teacher externs worked at some of Maryland’s anchor businesses including BGE, KCI, Leidos, and Stanley Black & Decker.
The program, and your generous donation, enables each teacher extern to receive a stipend from the Maryland Chamber Foundation, and up to four continuing professional development (CPD) credits from the Maryland State Department of Education. They’ll also gain invaluable experiences and perspectives to be shared with students, parents and fellow teachers—through field trips, enhanced lesson plans, and exciting classroom activities— both virtually and whenever students and teachers return to the classroom.
