In keeping with tradition, the swearing-in of Gov.-elect Lawrence J. “Larry” Hogan, Jr. and Lt. Gov.-elect Boyd Rutherford was open to the public and began at noon today, January 21st, outside the State House. Immediately after the ceremony, Hogan and Rutherford hosted a public reception and receiving line inside the State House Rotunda. The buzz continues to be bi-partisanship, the budget and an absolute commitment to growing Maryland jobs and its economy. Even with the threat of bad weather, turn out was great and people were genuinely excited to be part of such an historic moment.
Festivities continue this evening in Baltimore. The Inaugural Gala will be held at the city’s convention center. A “VIP reception” is scheduled beforehand at the adjacent Hilton hotel.
Brien Poffenberger, President/CEO of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, who represented the Chamber as part the Governor-elect’s Transition Team, said that serving as part of the Transition Team was a great opportunity to create stronger partnerships between State government and the business community and he was honored to work with such a diverse group of leaders. Now, with the General Assembly in session and the Governor’s swearing-in complete, Poffenberger is confident that the Maryland Chamber is ready to continue its work advocating for the business community, supporting its members and helping advance Maryland as a national competitive leader.
