(April 1, 2018—ROCKVILLE, Md.) Kaiser Permanente, the nation’s largest not-for-profit integrated health care system, alongside Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski, Jr., announced its plans to open a new five-story, state-of-the-art multi-specialty medical center in Timonium, Md. This new medical center, which will open in 2021, will support the growing demand for Kaiser Permanente’s award-winning health care and coverage in and around Baltimore County.
Located on five acres at 2323 Greenspring Drive in Timonium, Md., the 221,795-square-foot medical center will be the sixth major Kaiser Permanente “hub” in the region. It will offer an unparalleled array of primary and specialty medical care services, including 24-hour advanced urgent care with clinical observation units, 24-hour pharmacy, ambulatory surgery center operating rooms, laboratory and a full range of radiological services, including x-ray, CT and MRI — all under one roof.
“Our health system provides outstanding clinical care with unmatched access and convenience to our members,” said Kim Horn, regional president of Kaiser Permanente. “Our new medical hub in Timonium will provide members with best-in-the-nation clinical care in person or online, increased health care access and the convenience of having a full range of primary and specialty care services in the same building.”
The new medical center will also include expanded digital technology that will enhance Kaiser Permanente members’ experience through streamlined check-in and same- or next-day appointment scheduling capabilities, in addition to telehealth, online prescription refills (with free and fast delivery to members’ homes) and more on kp.org.
“When they come to our new medical center, patients will receive the extraordinary care from our expert Permanente physicians who have earned us the number one spot for quality in the nation year after year,” said Richard McCarthy, MD, associate executive director of the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, which provides care for Kaiser Permanente members in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. “We are thrilled to increase access to our award-winning physicians, who use evidence-based medicine to screen, diagnose and treat patients quickly and effectively in our integrated health system.”
Kaiser Permanente hubs like the one to be built in Timonium offer primary care services and the ability to care for members with health concerns that are too complex for a doctor’s office but do not require multiple days in the hospital. A full range of physicians are available around the clock to provide this expertise and care.
“We’re excited to welcome Kaiser Permanente to the neighborhood and we are glad that they chose Timonium to open the state-of-the-art multi-specialty medical center,” said Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski, Jr. “This location will provide a great resource to the community as well as job opportunities to the residents of Baltimore County.” We believe that the success of Kaiser Permanente’s South Baltimore County Medical Center made it an easy decision to build this state-of-the-art facility in the northern portion of the county and that this new hub provides a positive economic development boost to the area, according to Olszewski. The South Baltimore County Medical Center opened in 2013.
Kaiser Permanente members will be able to easily access the location by using public transportation. “This medical hub will be located near the Light Rail station, which makes this a true transit-oriented development,” said Olszewski. “Baltimore County is proud to have partnered with Kaiser Permanente to place an emphasis on transit-oriented development.”
This is the latest in a series of new facility openings and announcements by Kaiser Permanente.
Kaiser Permanente will be the premier tenant occupying 176,000 square feet in a new 200,000-square-foot administrative building, which will celebrate its ribbon-cutting on Thursday, April 4. This facility will have room for approximately 850 employees in the New Carrollton Transit Center in Prince George’s County.
Kaiser Permanente will also open three new medical centers in Virginia this year:
