Maryland Chamber Announces Inspire Maryland Award Recipient
ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Maryland Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce BGE as the 2020 Inspire Maryland award winner. Their contributions to the community in 2020 set them apart as a standout company. From dedication to workforce development, as seen in their participation in the Maryland Chamber Foundation’s Teacher Externship Program, to setting an outstanding example of leadership in their field with their Civic works and Smart Energy Workforce Development Programs, BGE truly exemplifies what the Inspire Maryland awards are all about.
BGE’s Workforce Collaborative job training program focuses on expanding access to careers for Maryland residents who may otherwise be locked out of family-wage job opportunities. BGE partnered with Civic Works – providing financial support and helping to design the Utility Infrastructure training program. BGE also engages local contractors and provides ongoing feedback to ensure graduating trainees are fully prepared for utility construction work. Through its Workforce Collaborative program, BGE has graduated 41 Baltimore residents so far.
Between their Smart Energy Workforce Development Program (SEWD) which advances the company’s desire to reflect its community by creating internal and external career pathways and pipelines for youth and work-ready adults and their Smart Energy High School Internship Program, which provides an eight-week experience for local high school students, BGE has proven themselves dedicated to the community and the continued growth and success of those around them. Along with their internships, BGE hosts a Workforce Collaborative program that helps to increase access to careers at BGE for the local community. Within this program, they work to develop the diverse talent pipelines representative of their service area while helping the participants of their programs to achieve economic stability with a stipend and transportation allowance through the program.
“When our businesses focus on equality of opportunity and thrive, so does our state,” noted Christine Ross, President & CEO of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce,— “and making our state stronger is what we strive to do each day. This year, our awards will acknowledge outstanding leaders and contributors to the Maryland business community and the community at large, as well as companies that are fueling the talent pipeline by providing training and tools for tomorrow’s leaders.”
This hour-long virtual event begins at 4 p.m. and will include recognition of the 2020 Inspire MD Awards recipients for the Maryland Business Hall of Fame Award and the Inspire MD Award as well as a Leadership Panel with the awardees hosted by the platinum sponsor, AT&T.
The event will feature a video message from Governor Larry Hogan, who will provide remarks about COVID-19 response, recovery, and the role of the Maryland business community, as well as congratulating award winners.
